Looking for doctors who are media engagement stars! Or have innovative practices!

We have five categories in the new Medical Post Awards launching this year. Deadline for entry is May 31.

I'm the editor-in-chief of the Medical Post, which—as you may know—is a six-times a year magazine and the Doctor Daily newsletter for Canadian doctors.

This year we've launching something new for us: The Medical Post Awards

There are five categories (listed below) but we're particularly looking for more entries in two categories:

  1. Media Engagement Award  Honours a Canadian doctor who is leading change in healthcare through media and social media communications.
  2. Innovative Practice Award Honours a physician whose practice has found new ways to improve patient care

(We're doing the media engagement award this year— I'm not sure if we'll do it in future years — 'media' is a very unique space.)

My ask: Are you a physician—or do you know a physician—who would be a good candidate for these and is there anything you can do to encourage folks to enter?

BASICS: TO APPLY:

Ideally someone is applying for someone else who they think would be a strong candidate (but in some cases folks are applying for themselves and that is fine). To apply one needs:

  • The curriculum vitae (CV / resumé) of the nominee.
  • A letter clearly explaining how the candidate distinguishes in the category in question (for example, by describing their work and its impact).
  • To complete our online nomination form entry form.

Help with the application process, my colleague Sylvie (she's bilingual) is happy to help:

FROM MY APRIL EDITORIAL:

The Medical Post Awards

We’re launching the Medical Post Awards this year! The 2022 awards, to be presented at a hybrid live and virtual gala, will celebrate physicians who are leading voices on national issues, contributing in significant ways to communities, or innovating in their practice.

Why is the Medical Post doing this?

As a publication that reports on doctors and the issues that affect them, we’ve had the unique privilege of witnessing some of the brightest and most dedicated physicians go above and beyond the scopes of their professional responsibility. When the pandemic hit, we saw these medical champions step up even higher—even as COVID-19 added significantly to the burden that this country’s physicians have been carrying for so long. If there ever was a right time for the Medical Post to celebrate the leaders among our doctors, it is now. So we start this year with five awards.

We need your help. We need judges.

We’re looking for doctors to help us review and decide on submissions for the Medical Post Awards. This will entail a commitment during the summer of approximately five to 10 hours, depending on the number of submissions we receive. If you’d like to be part of this year’s Medical Post Awards judges, contact me directly at [email protected].
