The Law of Compensation states that you will be paid based on the demand for what you do, the skill involved with what you do, and the ease with which you can be replaced.

We need to recognize this lesson of the wood stove, because it gives us a tremendous clue for our leadership. We need to operate on the cause end of the law of cause and effect. What does that look like? It looks like adding value to the patients we serve.

I have heard some claim that we are now in the Age of Insight. The age where we take the information available to us and then find ways to apply it in such a way as to deliver a benefit. In keeping with the theme of the last several articles, we would call this delivering “value.”

In my experience, so many leaders model their leadership based on how they have been led. This often yields limited results when there is near limitless opportunity around them. And when the “storm” comes along, their business is in serious jeopardy.

What does quality look like in the pharmacy? And how do we lead our team to provide quality service to the patients that we serve? These are questions that I now find quite fascinating, however 15 years ago, I just assumed that I knew what it was.

For a kid who grew up on a farm in rural Pennsylvania, it only makes sense that I would want to become a pharmacist, right? It only makes sense that in 2007, I would find myself accepting a promotion to help develop clinical programs for pharmacists across multiple states.

What are your core values? You may not know them, but trust me, you have them. If you already have a list of core values, I encourage you to review those values with your team regularly.

Several weeks ago, I wrote a post about the difference between managers and leaders. A noticeable difference between the two is managers do things right while leaders do the right things.

I believe that our oaths are one of those defined points that we must anchor ourselves to professionally and with our leadership. Oaths are promises that we make to the people we serve. And when we keep those promises, we can progress in an expected way.

We can learn an important lesson about our leadership from GPS. We can learn that there are some defined points that we need to stay in tune with to get where we want to go.
