Tech Talk CE: The role of pharmacy technicians in the care of patients on dialysis

Patients undergoing dialysis are a medically complex population with a high medication burden and frequent hospitalizations. Comprehensive pharmacy practice presents pharmacy technicians with new opportunities to perform key functions and services like medication reconciliation.

  • Describe common medications used by dialysis patients with a focus on anemia and bone disease management. 
  • Identify medications that require dose adjustments during dialysis. 
  • Discuss the role of the pharmacy technician in the care of a patient on dialysis
