Saskatchewan kids born in 2009 now eligible for Pfizer COVID-19 vax before they turn 12

A directive from the Saskatchewan’s government now permits children born in 2009 to get the COVID-19 vaccine before they turn 12.

“Only Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is to be provided for immunization of these children,” the directive read. “Prior to this directive, children born in 2009 had to wait until they turned 12 years old to be immunized with Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.”

The directive also noted the province may offer COVID-19 immunization in schools this fall, and if so, parents and guardians will receive a paper content form sent home with their child to obtain informed consent for vaccination.

Saskatchewan joins Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Ontario in offering the vaccine to children born in 2009.
