New Product: LUMIFY Redness Reliever Eye Drops

Bausch + Lomb is releasing LUMIFY, a new anti-redness eye drop.

It's the only eye drop available in Canada that uses low dose brimonidine. As such, it constricts the eye’s veins, instead of the arteries, which lets more oxygen reach the eye and maintains the blood flow to it. It also makes it less likely to cause rebound redness or lose its efficacy after repeated use than other products.

The drops come in 3.5 mL and 7.5 mL formats and are available over the counter across Canada. They can be used with contact lenses, though users should wait 10 minutes after using them to insert their contacts. They can also be used with other eye drop products, though those should be spaced out by five minutes.

The product has been sold in the U.S. since 2018, and was approved by Health Canada in May. “We are excited to be able to now offer Canadians a new option to help relieve their red, irritated eyes," Joe Gordon, president of Global Consumer, Surgical and Vision Care at Bausch + Lomb, said in a press release. "Bausch + Lomb is dedicated to meeting the needs of eye care professionals and their patients, and we're proud to bring LUMIFY® forward as an example of our continued commitment to developing innovative eye health products."

A clinical trial found that the low brimonidine concentration had few side effects and that it was effective, reducing redness within a minute and lasting up to eight hours.
